Inclusive Anatomy
The Team
Inclusive Anatomy is a collaborative initiative created by students, educators, researchers, and leaders in the medical and anatomical sciences who share a commitment to accuracy, clarity, and respect in anatomical education. This platform was developed as a centralized, open-access space to critically examine anatomical language, particularly the use of eponyms, and to provide evidence-informed resources that support more inclusive teaching and learning practices.
By bringing together scholarship, pedagogy, and community-driven work, Inclusive Anatomy aims to support educators and learners in navigating anatomical terminology with greater precision, ethical awareness, and inclusivity.
Dr. Charys Martin, PhD, MSc, BSc (She/Her)
Academy Educator, Assistant Professor, Western University
Charys Martin is the anatomy lead for the undergraduate medical curriculum. As an elected Teaching Fellow with Western’s Centre for Teaching and Learning, Dr. Martin is the founder of Inclusive Anatomy, a library of anatomical learning resources that educate and role-model gender-inclusive and culturally appropriate terminology. Implementation and evaluation of these inclusive educational resources into Medicine and healthcare professional programs will lead to graduates who are equipped with language that is socially accountable and culturally sensitive, aligning with Schulich’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization goals.

Charlie Brake, BA Kinesiology (He/They)
MSc Candidate in Clinical Anatomy,
Western University
Charlie completed his BA in Kinesiology at Western University, and in September 2024, began an MSc in Clinical Anatomy. Their research contributes to the integration of sex and gender diversity within anatomy education, with a focus on describing learners’ perceptions and attitudes towards anatomical diversity and inclusive language.

Emily Danciu was a graduate student in the Master of Science in Clinical Anatomy program at Western University. For her MSc project, she evaluated the prevalence of anatomical eponyms used within healthcare professional education programs.
Medical Illustrators
Katelyn Moore, MScBMC (She/Her)

Katelyn (Kate) Moore was a graduate student in the Master of Science in Biomedical Communications program at the University of Toronto. Using her knowledge of anatomy and her skills in art, she helps create the open-access medical illustrations found in the Eponym Directory that portray complex anatomy in an easy-to-understand yet accurate manner.
Stefanie Jinyin Wang, MScBMC (She/Her)

Stefanie Jinyin Wang was a graduate student in the Master of Science in Biomedical Communications program at the University of Toronto. She is the medical illustrator involved with creating the original open access illustrations catered specifically towards highlighting and bolstering education of a multitude of complex regions in the human body.

Elham, Oleen, Jasmine and Vaibhavi graduated from Western University from the Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Medical Science program. They were actively engaged in designing the Inclusive Anatomy website while also conducting research and crafting detailed anatomical and historical descriptions of eponyms. Their collective aim was to help with moving away from eponym usage and fostering a shift towards more inclusive terminology in the medical field.

Sara, Rishika, and Vivian graduated from Western University from the Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Medical Science program. Together, they used their interdisciplinary knowledge to help design and create high quality content for the Inclusive Anatomy website. As a group they have passions for Medicine and Dentistry and look forward to the positive impact that the Inclusive Anatomy project will have on anatomy education in these fields and beyond.

They are actively working to design and update the Inclusive Anatomy website, contributing new content and refining existing materials. Their shared goal is to promote inclusive and accurate anatomical terminology to support more equitable medical education.

Hana Zhang is a medical student at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry in the class of 2027. For the Inclusive Anatomy website, she supports the website team by reviewing and editing content for the Eponym Directory, including the structural, functional, and historical descriptions of the eponymous anatomical terms.
